Jonotjoe's Weblog

These are a few of my favorite things…

The Best at the 2011 Oscars.

A tad bit late . . . okay really late, but I couldn’t pass on a post to gush about the gowns from the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Out of all the gowns worn by the actresses that night, none had me swooning as much as Cate Blanchett‘s Givenchy haute couture dress from the Spring 2011 collection.

At first, I thought it was extremely odd (chest frame anyone?) – but when I gave it a few more glances, I realized that it looked absolutely stunning. She strayed from a ‘saftey’ gown and took a step towards what true couture is and should be.

Also, I had to post her acceptance speech from winning Best Supporting Actress  in The Aviator at the 2005 Oscars. Why? Because I’m slowly becoming obsessed with her..

I too hope her daughter marries Martin Scorsese’s son. What a power couple they would be.

Three New Yorks.

There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born there, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size, its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter–the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these trembling cities the greatest is the last–the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York’s high strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness, natives give it solidity and continuity, but the settlers give it passion. And whether it is a farmer arriving from a small town in Mississippi to escape the indignity of being observed by her neighbors, or a boy arriving from the Corn Belt with a manuscript in his suitcase and a pain in his heart, it makes no difference: each embraces New York with the intense excitement of first love, each absorbs New York with the fresh yes of an adventurer, each generates heat and light to dwarf the Consolidated Edison Company.

Pretty Girl Rock.

I’m currently obsessed with Keri Hilson’s new song Pretty Girl Rock and the music video. I love how she portrays the different ‘pretty girls’ from different eras. There’s the silent movie flapper girl, a 1940′s film star, a 1950′s candy girl, Diana Ross, Janet Jackson, and TLC.

I also want to learn the Pretty Girl Rock dance.

J.Crew Swimwear.

Winter is dreary and I need the sun. When I’m not falling in love with numerous sweaters, I’m swooning over J.Crew‘s swimwear, particular one-pieces. Should we gasp here? Or can we ladies accept the beauty and classiness of a one-piece bathing suit? Personally, I adore the look and though I won’t be putting my two-pieces away, I can’t help but fall under the sophisticated spell of the following swimwear pieces.

How adorable are they? I’m seriously considering purchasing one of the two. Thoughts?

Keira Knightley for Vogue Italia.

Keira Knightley, my girl crush and favorite actress, is featured in the January issue of Vogue Italia. Donning some of Spring’s romantic pieces, she looks absolutely stunning, as per usual.

What can we take from these photos? That even if you draw on Knightley’s face, she will still look gorgeous.
